May 11, 2020
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
It has been an unusual and challenging fourth quarter for staff, students and parents. We missed so many cherished events, activities, and classroom time with students. We are so appreciative of all the support from parents and are thankful and proud of our students for what they have accomplished during this time. The final days are here and I want to share with you the important dates and information for completing the 2019-2020 school year.
May 11-15 will be our last week of required work for all students.
Monday, May 18, 1:00-6:00 p.m.
Monday, May 18, will be the final drop-off for completed work. We will also be returning any personal items still at school to students. If students have not completed work in a subject and need to keep the textbook, they will need to make plans to return the textbook at a later date with teacher.
Items to return/Bring

Procedure: (This is a change from previous communication) We are asking all students and parents to remain in cars. Staff members will come to your car with your student’s belongings. They will also take the items you are returning. Other staff members with be doing an inventory of your returned items. We are asking 5th-8th grade items be picked up and returned at the back door. Follow car line procedures. 9th -12th grade items should be returned at the front door. Please park along the sidewalk facing the front of the building and staff will come to your car for the items. If you have students in both categories, you will have to stop at both stations.
We have scheduled 8th grade graduation for June 18, with an alternate date of July 9.
We have scheduled 12th grade graduation for June 19, with an alternate date of July 10.
If neither of these dates work due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will go to plan B which will be a virtual graduation. Updates will be given on the website regarding the status of graduation. Completion status will need to be accomplished before graduates will receive diplomas.
Required Remote Learning Work
All students will be expected to finish the assigned work from fourth quarter to earn a completion grade and be promoted to the next grade. Staff will work with students until May 29. After May 29, students will be put on academic probation until they complete the work.
Academic probation will affect their status for the 2020-2021 school year and their participation in athletics and other school activities.
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the changes we will experience in regard to our staff next year. We will be losing four key staff members for next year.
Mrs. Rozanas will be retiring at the end of this school year. She is finishing her 19th year at FCS. She has served in different areas—Librarian, music teacher, elementary choir director, Co-director of the school musical, and is currently the Fourth Grade teacher where she has served for many of her years at Faith. Mrs. Rozanas shared, “My years at Faith were filled with happy memories of times spent with students in the classroom, working on concerts and musicals, and being a part of children’s lives for so many years. Also, the fellowship that came from serving alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ was a sweet blessing to me.”
Mrs. Kent has accepted a position with Dixon Public Schools teaching middle school math. Mrs. Kent is completing her 8th year at Faith. During her tenure at FCS, she has taught 3rd grade reading, language and math, 9th grade math, and currently is teaching 7th grade math along with 2nd grade classroom teacher. When asked about what she most enjoyed about teaching at FCS, this was her response, “My favorite thing about teaching at Faith has been the amazing students. I’ve been blessed to be a part of their lives.”
Mrs. VanBuren will be leaving her position as Athletic Director to pursue other employment. She started her time at Faith as the secretary at the elementary building and the elementary PE teacher. She left and returned a few years later to serve as athletic director. Babette has been a part of the school for around 19 years. She has done an outstanding job of managing our athletics and has served as a coach as well as AD. She has represented our school so well and has done her job with passion. She has always demonstrated a love for others and Jesus Christ. Babette says her memories will be of working with the best people around. She states, “I love how each teacher loves the Lord and genuinely cares for each student. Faith Christian is the best place I have ever worked.”
Mr. Jim Taulbee will also be leaving for a 2nd retirement and to spend more time helping his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He has been on staff for three years teaching Math and PE. He has also been very helpful in training staff in various technology pursuits. He has also been the boys’ volleyball coach. He has had a great impact on staff and students at Faith, and we are so thankful for the years he spent with us.
There truly are no words to say how much we will miss each of them. Their impact has been great and their willingness to share their time and talents at Faith Christian School has been such a blessing to us. They will always be a part of the FCS family, and we will always be so thankful for the impact they have had. We know God has great plans for each of them and pray God’s blessings on them as they pursue other interests.
