Welcome to Interior Design!
This is an introductory course into the world of Interior Design. This class will include lecture, discussion, and project-based learning. Topics will include—
- Elements and Principles of Design
- Color Theory
- Historical Period Design Styles
- The Design Process
- Finishes of a Room
- Furnishings of a Room
- Lighting and Accessories
- Design Budgets
- Careers in Interior Design and Decorating

Students will put lessons into practice by incorporating a hands-on approach to learning—creating design proposals for various projects. The course will conclude with students each completing a portfolio—a design proposal with a sample board, floor plan, and budget. Each student will present his/her design proposal to the class.
A personal note from Mrs. Worrell—
I love the world of Interior Design. When I was in high school, I took two electives that created a desire in me to learn more about design and decorating. Those classes were Drafting (where we created our own house plans) and Intro to Interior Design. I am excited that we are able to offer Intro to Interior Design to FCS High School students this year. It will be a fun and engaging class where creativity is the norm. It will also be hands-on and project-based. My hope is that you will also develop a desire to learn more about design by being in this class and that spark will help you in years to come—whether you seek a profession in Interior Design, you use design to help your community, or you just want to make your home an amazing reflection of you.
We serve the Author of creativity…I am thrilled to be able to spend the next school year with you as we discover God’s fingerprint in the world of design.
