Grade 3 Turbo Charged News
Week September 18-22, 2023
AIMS Web testing for grade 3 got changed to Monday morning.
There is nothing your child can study to prepare as it is
an assessment of where they are at now in their learning.
It is helpful to make sure they get a good nights sleep the
night before.
Wednesday is a 1/2 day. We do have Library in the morning. Remember your books!

What We are Studying and Learning
English:
This week we’re reviewing synonyms & antonyms
well as analogies. Our Chapter 1 test is Friday.
Study Classroom Practice 4.
Reading:
With partners we are answering the
comprehension questions from our reading
books. We’ll check our answers this week
together.
Writing:
This week we will practice our editing
skills. I will conference with each
student after checking their editing.
Bible: Our memory verse this week is
Hebrews :11:8a&b to be recited on Friday.

Our lesson focus is to explore our biblical
maps where Canaan was. Each Wednesday
your child will bring home the week lessons to
review for 0ur Bible Quiz on Thursday. Please
Help them study and know the vocabulary
words we have learned during the week as
well as the main ideas from the 3 days.
Spelling:
This week is List 5: road, throne, those, oatmeal
thrown, owned, rode, window, chose, rowboat, holes, loaf,
homemade, whole, coach, following while, high, always, almost
Math:
Our test on Place Value is today – Monday.
Then we begin a Chapter on 2 & 3 digit addition
with carrying and borrowing.
Science:
The students are researching information about
their chosen mammals and will write their
final report on Thursday and Friday.

Week August 28-September 1, 2023
Materials needed: Your child needs a clipboard and 1 more pocket folder. I apologize that this was omitted from their supply list.
English: This week we are reviewing the rules for correct
capitalization and punctuation when we write.
Using these rules is our goal for all of grade 3!
Reading: This week we continue to practice independent
reading skills, partner reading, and choosing
books that are on the correct reading level for
us, which we call “good-fit books”.
Writing: Using the Smekens writing program, we have
begun setting up our writing composition
notebook. Beginning with our idea section, we
are listing ideas to write about that are a part of
our lives – when we write about what we know,
then writing becomes fun! We are building our
stamina more and more each day to be able to
write for a full 30 minutes!
Bible: Our memory verse this week is
Romans:15:4a&b to be recited on Friday
Our lesson focus is creation and sin and the
work and promise of Jesus. Your child will
bring home the week lessons on Wednesday to
review for 0ur Bible Quiz on Thursday.
Spelling: Every Friday your child will receive their new
spelling list. This week is List 2. Students
are expected to write the words 2x on their
weekend spelling homework paper to begin
to learn them. There is a pretest every
Monday to see what words they need to
practice. IF they get a 100% on their pretest
they don’t have to take the final on Thursday!
List 2 words: to be added. Your child brought
home a paper list in their Faith Folder.
Math: This week we review addition and
subtraction in the form of Fact Families which
are the 3 numbers that make up the problem.
Our chapter review is Wednesday and
Thursday of the identity property, the zero
property, the associative property and the
Communitive proper and the test is Friday
Science: We are learning about cold-blooded animals
which includes amphibians and reptiles. A
surprise reptile is going to visit our class!
