In this assignment,
- You will be graded on your handling of one of these dialogue techniques
- Summarized speech
- Indirect speech
Prompt: -2 page minimum-
- Put your character in their element, at a place they love with the people they love.
- Where are they? Who are they with? Maybe include why they’re there.
- Write some dialogue as summarized or indirect speech (refer to p. 45 and surrounding pages in your handout.)
- Then, change up the scene by introducing someone or an event that clearly adds tension to any further dialogue, an uninvited guest? A terrible event?
- Write an instance of tense, regular dialogue before cutting it off.
By now
- You should have the main character ready to go. It can be one you’ve used before or are making now.
- You should also have some ideas about what themes your character will exemplify or flirt with.
- A good way to choose this is to think of themes in contrast,
- think of your favorite fictional characters, and imagine what themes the author teased out of their stories.
- If you don’t have a list of contrasting themes, get one from me. You’ll need to have some selected for me to see.
