Dear parents of K-4th grade.
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jennie Smith. Last year I had the privilege of teaching middle school music. This year I am SO excited to be at the elementary building. I am looking forward to sharing my experience and training as a licensed “Kindermusik” Educator.
Although I am still working on curriculum planning for 4-6th grade, “Kindermusik Level 4” has been approved as the curriculum of choice for kindergarten, and 1st grade, with “Kindermusik Musicians-year 1” (Formerly known as “Kindermusik Young Child-semesters 1 & 2) for 2nd and 3rd grade. Ideally, the progression would be Level 4 for kindergarten, “Kindermusik Musicians-year 1” for 1st grade, and “Kindermusik Musicians-year 2” for 2nd grade. This year, however will be a year for setting the groundwork in re-establishing our music program from the ground up, so I have chosen the prior route for this year in order to allow what may be review for some students, but brand-new ideas for others. Again, the idea is to better establish basic musical concepts for our younger students to better thrive and set the groundwork for middle school and high school. All “Kindermusik” levels are designed for students to experience musical concepts through a variety of medium. Instrument and object exploration, instruments play-a-longs, vocal play, singing, and stories with rhythmic parts, are several ways to instill various parts of music in ways that are more developmentally appropriate for young children, and their development. Symbols and musical games lead into more formal reading of music on the staff. The goal is that all students will have a foundation that promotes further musical study while enhancing all areas of their development.
It is an honor to be trusted in the partnering of teaching your children in an environment that promotes Christ. It is my hope and prayer that all our Children will come to a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and learn what it means to experience uninhibited praise to our King!
